Financial Analyst - Pathology

The Department of Pathology at University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for a Financial Analyst position. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual seeking to work in a fast-paced learning environment within the Department of Pathology.
Job Duties:
- Serve as liaison between Pathology and Patient Financial Services to proactively develop and advise on Pathology specific billing and coding processes to maximize opportunities for revenue capture.
- Monitor work queues and take appropriate action to resolve revenue issues caught in various stages of the revenue cycle.
- Assist in the analysis of reports related to reimbursement trends, physician productivity, coding patterns, and documentation issues.
- May provide supervision of billing and coding staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Information Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 years experience using databases, queries, Excel, and reporting tools for report generation and analysis
- Experience identifying opportunities for operational improvement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in computer software applications
Desirable Qualifications:
- Medical coding experience is highly desirable
- 1+ years of supervisor experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle and corresponding data and metrics is highly desirable
- Familiarity with medical coding and/or billing is desirable
- Knowledge of/familiarity with the organizational structure of and standard operating procedures used in UI Health Care Revenue Cycle is desirable
- Experience using EPIC products such as EPIC Beaker and EPIC Resolute is desirable
- Familiarity with GL reports is desirable
