Salary Range: $59,700 - $92,000 / Year
This position serves as the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager for UC San Diego - Housing • Dining • Hospitality (HDH) within the Financial and Budget Management Services (FBM) division with oversight over the daily budgeting and forecasting functions of the division. Oversees the management of financial activities including timely and accurate production of complex financial reports and analysis. Provides analyses and fiscal management on more than $189 million annually. Develops analytical and financial modeling tools to guide management decisions on operating funds, staffing, room rates and new business ventures. Reports fiscal concerns to Senior Manager and formulates and recommends solutions. Provides short and long term analysis, projections and solutions in the areas of financial management, organization procedures, and staffing. Utilizes several UC and departmental based systems to prepare a variety of complex reports for data management.
Develops, revises and updates standard operating procedures. Recommends new policies and procedures and revises existing procedures as necessary. Creates and implements a variety of complex internal systems for validating and reporting of data for use by management. Advises the Senior Manager about the development of financial systems and tools to ensure integrity of data collection, analysis, reporting, presentation and tracking of all departmental fiscal transactions. Provides training to all HDH divisions on budgetary and financial systems.
Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with approximately 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget of greater than $189 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 15,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering approximately 6 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which will add 5000 new beds and almost double our square footage by 2021. Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD’s enrolled students with a goal of housing 50% in the near future. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
• Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
• Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
• Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Skill with computerized business applications and ability to assess and contribute to development of automated systems.
• Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to function as a member of a team.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
• Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability and experience to identify training and development needs, evaluate workloads and resources, and planning and organizing day-to-day activities.
• Proven analytical ability to determine income and expense trends determine troubleshoot and solve procedural problems or inconsistencies prepare scheduled and ad hoc financial reports.
• Strong demonstrated ability to read and interpret information contained in paper and electronic accounting documents, such as ledgers, journals, distribution of payroll expense, purchase orders, etc.
• Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate procedures ability to plan and handle logistics for special projects.
• Proven skill to work independently, take initiative, exercise good judgement and solve problems with ability to make independent decisions as well as to function as part of a team in a busy and complex department.
