Investigative Reporter with Data Skills
Wanted: Investigative Reporter with Data Skills
Join the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s award-winning investigative team focusing on essential watchdog work in Southern Nevada and beyond. We’re looking for someone who can take public data and apply deep analysis and critical thinking to produce stories and videos that impact our communities in the Las Vegas Valley.
We’re looking for a CAR specialist and someone who uses public records regularly for watchdog journalism. This person should also have a track record in building sources across a variety of agencies, from local and state government to law enforcement and courts. You’ll do the analysis - and report the story from beginning to publication, partnering with visual colleagues. This person would be a newsroom leader in training and advising other teams in data reporting and gathering. Experience with reaching digital audiences in a variety of ways is desired. Team members write video scripts, do regular video interviews, and have written and hosted podcasts.
We’re ambitious - you’ll join a team that has won 27 awards in the past three years for their impactful investigations into lax oversight of county departments, a potential conspiracy at city hall, failures that led to a deadly downtown fire, and police accountability across Southern Nevada’s largest agencies. This year, we’ve also focused reporting efforts on heat deaths, and several tragic and dangerous driving cases involving multiple fatalities showing why drivers are at risk.
Our team is a high-producing group of reporters who know how to balance quick-turn impactful stories with longer, deeper investigations. Nevada is a state known for officials delaying and denying access to records. Join us to fight for transparency.
