BCR General Assignment Reporter
GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER
Not far from the bright lights of Las Vegas, nestled in the shadow of Hoover Dam, is Boulder City. With a quaint historic district downtown, it offers a slice of small-town living where people know their neighbors and work together for the good of the community. This isn’t Mayberry, but it’s close.
The Boulder City Review, which has been named the top newspaper in rural Nevada three times in the past four years by the Nevada Press Foundation, is a weekly newspaper that covers everything from the City Council to high school sports to the ladies social club. We are looking for a general assignment reporter. Versatility is crucial – the job requires hard-news reporting as well as feature writing skills. Candidates also need to be flexible, because the position sometimes requires working at night and on weekends. Photography, videography and social media skills are required. The preferred candidate should be able to work independently as well as collaborate with the editor. Additionally, the position requires the reporter to fill in for the editor when she takes vacation.
Boulder City offers many civic and cultural events, including the annual Dam Short Film Festival, the Best Dam Barbecue Festival, Damboree and Art in the Park. And with Lake Mead National Recreation Area next door, there are myriad recreational activities on water and land – and lots of news associated with it. A short drive up the highway lies the Las Vegas Valley, as dynamic a news market as anywhere in the country. Southern Nevada is home to about 2.3 million people, plus up to 200,000 visitors on any given day, and is the base of the award-winning Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Boulder City Review’s parent company.
This position is based in the Boulder City/Henderson/Las Vegas area. You must provide proof that you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we are a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screening is required.
