ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Clark County Air Quality Department in Las Vegas, Nevada, is seeking qualified applicants for the Air Quality Monitoring Technician I/II. The Air Quality Monitoring Technician I is the entry-level classification in the Air Quality Monitoring Technician series. The classification is distinguished from the Air Quality Monitoring Technician II classification by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series, including routine maintenance of monitoring equipment and replacement of parts.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. The Air Quality Monitoring Technician I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Air Quality Monitoring Technician II.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Air Quality Monitoring Technician I - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, electronics, meteorology, computer science, quality management, metrology or a related field. Job-related experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
Air Quality Monitoring Technician II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience comparable to that of an Air Quality Monitoring Technician I and completion of the Monitoring Technician training program. Experience in quality control and quality assurance programs is desirable.

Working Conditions: Work out of doors in various weather conditions, dust and noise. May attend meetings or training courses outside of normal working hours.
Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug screening.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Modify, repair, inspect, deploy, verify, maintain, and calibrate a variety of electronic optical, pneumatic, analytical, mechanical, meteorological, and communications air monitoring instruments in the field or shop; changes filters and other sampling mediums; performs basic and routine maintenance of monitoring equipment and monitoring sites. Performs on-site diagnosis of electronic equipment and repair any malfunctioning monitoring equipment. Performs zero precision and other checks of monitoring instruments; weighs and prepares particulate filter; prepares replacement sampling medium. Installs and maintains monitoring station shelter with environmental controls; records all maintenance and quality control and assurance procedures. Assembles towers at meteorological collection sites. Performs and documents calculations on certification transfer standards; computer data and product printouts, regression analysis, calibration graphs, pollution level graphs and other computer generated information. Develops computer files and records to assist in documenting calculations and quality activities. Reviews, refines, verifies, validates, corrects, and process air quality data and telecommunications information systems or other public data services. Reviews, summarizes, and maintains electronic and manual data, manually collected data and data records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and recordation guidelines. Assist the public with federal and local regulation compliance. Maintains accurate computer files and records of division activities, inspections, maintenance and repair; produces reports on assigned activities. Drives a county or personal vehicle to various locations throughout the county in order to conduct onsite inspections and equipment maintenance and repair and to attend meetings
OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Promotes the public image of the Air Quality Department through exemplification of core values and professional interactions with organizations, small businesses, customers, and individuals. Recommends alternate equipment and procedures. Perform project management or participate on project team for divisional projects and initiatives. Assists in the planning and development of departmental and/or divisional internal policies and procedures. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and/or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses standard office equipment including a computer, in the course of the work. Attends on and off site meetings, local and out of state trainings, and other departmental functions. Performs special assignments and projects. May be assigned to perform other air quality functions as necessity dictates and/or to train and perform in other air quality specialties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility to work in a typical office and outdoor setting, use standard office equipment and to drive a motor vehicle in order to visit various job sites; strength and stamina to conduct various investigations at industrial, commercial and residential sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. May involve significant walking, climbing, stooping, light lifting and performing functions in areas with limited clearances.
