Under the leadership of the Economic Development & Planning Department, the Chief Plan Review Analyst will work in the Building & Safety Division to be part of a team in reviewing site plans for additions and new buildings to ensure mechanical systems and new buildings are in compliance of meeting code requirements. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The City of Lansing reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, building construction
- OR a related field and four (4) years of experience as a plan reviewer or performing architectural and building design work
- OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- International Code Council certification as a Building Plans Examiner preferred
PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the individual through assistance or on their own to walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, balance, handle, finger, talk, listen and visual acuity.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Office environment with some trips to construction sites.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as advisor and secretary to the Building Board of Appeals
- Reviews site plans as part of the site plans review process for additions and new buildings in compliance with the Building Code.
- Supervises trains and evaluates subordinate plan reviewers
- Visually examines all plans for building permits to ensure compliance with applicable codes and works directly with contractors and other parties to make needed corrections prior to issuing building permits
- Attends meetings and conducts oral presentations regarding building activities
- Drives a automobile to and from work site to check on questions and deal with other problems regarding construction plans
